Anne Thorsen Truax was born on March 21, 1925. She earned her B.A. in American Studies from the University of Minnesota in 1963 and completed the summer institute for women in higher education administration at Bryn Mawr College (Bryn Mawr, PA) in 1976. Anne Truax began her career at the University of Minnesota as assistant to the dean of students in 1968. She became the acting director of the Minnesota Planning and Counseling Center for Women in 1969 and director of the Minnesota Women's Center in 1970. She has also held dual academic appointments as instructor in family social science and women's studies. Anne Truax was also instrumental in the development of the ElderLearning Institute at the University of Minnesota; she served as leader, volunteer, donor, member of the board of directors and chair of the curriculum committee.
