Louisville native Enid Yandell was one of the first woman sculptors to gain recognition in the U.S. Some of her earliest work included decorative sculptures for the Women's Building at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, where she worked with Lorado Taft and Philip Martiny. Her commissions included large-scale statues and fountains for public spaces; busts; statues, fountains; and sundials for private gardens; and small figurines, lamps, and decorative pieces.
