Volin, 1882-1945
Variant namesPseudonym of Vsevolod Michajlovič Eichenbaum; born near the city of Voronež', Russia 1882, died in Paris 1945; anarchist, historian, journalist; as a socialist revolutionary participant in the events of 1905; arrested in 1907, escaped to France; joined in 1911 the Bratstvo Vol'nych Obščinnikov, turning anarchist; because of his antimilitarism he fled to New York in 1916; coeditor of Golos Truda in the USA; returned to Russia in July 1917; resumed publication of the repatriated Golos Truda in Petrograd; moved to the Ukraine, instrumental in the foundation of the Nabat group, edited Nabat; joined the army of Machno, member of the Cultural-Educational Commission; arrested in 1920, released in 1921 through pressure of foreign delegates in Moscow to the PROFINTERN Congress and left for Berlin, where he edited the Anarchičeskij Vestnik; in 1924 in Paris, contributed to the anarchist encyclopedia of Sébastien Faure; in 1938 coeditor of André Prudhommeaux's weekly Terre Libre; finished his history on the Russian Revolution R̀évolution inconnue' in 1940.
