Newspaper editor, congressman, and bank president from Iowa. Dawson engaged in newspaper work in Preston and Clinton Iowa (1891-1984). He served as secretary to Representative George M. Curtis and Senator William B. Allison (1895-1905) before being elected to Congress representing Iowa's second congressional district (1905-1911). After declining candidacy for renomination Dawson went on to become the president of the First National Bank of Davenport (1911-1929), executive secretary of the Republican National Senatorial Committee (1930), and a public utilities executive in Cincinnati, Ohio (1931-1945).
