Dr. Woolley served as Executive Secretary of the Historical Commission, Southern Baptist Convention, from 1959-1970 and as editor of Baptist History and Heritage from 1965-1970. Prior to his position at the Commission, Dr. Woolley worked in education positions within the Convention including Director, Extension Division, Howard College, Secretary of the Alabama State Baptist Student Union, Student Director of Baptist Student Union, First Baptist Church, Auburn, Alabama. He also held pastorates at First Baptist Church, Palatka, Florida, Waddy Baptist Church, Waddy, Kentucky, and Zion Baptist Church, Henderson County, Kentucky. Additionally, Dr. Woolley was a member of the Inter-Agency Council of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1961-1970, and was chairman for 1961-1963. From 1958-1959, he was vice-president of the Alabama Baptist Historical Society and briefly served on the board of the Florida Baptist Convention.
