The Division of Personnel Research was established in 1949 to assist the Classification and Compensation Division in conducting an annual salary survey, to conduct special research and statistical studies on personnel programs and policies, to administer the performance evaluation program, and to collect and prepare statistical data on State positions and salaries.

In 1954, as recommended by the Temporary State Commission on Coordination of State Activities, the Division was disbanded and its functions distributed to the Department's other divisions.
