Arthur S. Fisher was born in Oneonta, New York in 1909, son of Paul and Lena R. (LaPoint) Fisher. Arthur S. Fisher graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1927. After graduation he began work for the Glens Falls Post Company and its successors, continuing until retirement in 1974. He started as a reporter and became managing editor of the evening daily, The Glens Falls Times. After the Times ceased publication, he undertook editorial duties for the Post-Star. Long interested in fire protection, Fisher did extensive research on the history of the Glens Falls Fire Department and collected information and photographs on the history of firefighting in the region. He was active in several fire companies in the area.
With his interest in local history, Fisher assembled over many years a collection of historical photographs, along with some documents. This has now become the Arthur S. Fisher Photograph Collection. He was one of the authors of the book "Bridging the Years, Glens Falls, New York, 1763-1978," assembling and helping to select many of the photographs that were published in that book. He served as secretary of the Glens Falls-Queensbury Historical Association, was a member of the Glens Falls Rotary Club and also a board member of the Glens Falls YMCA. He was active in Republican politics throughout his life, serving as secretary of the Warren County Republican Committee from 1955-1986. He was also elected councilman-at-large for the City of Glens Falls, 1952-1955.
