The founding and organization of this division reflected the progressive changes taking place within APA at this time, which included representation of the various specializations in psychology. The founding of Division 16 accompanied the reorganization of APA as a whole in 1944 and 1945. The Division of School Psychologists was one of 19 original APA divisions.
