John P. Bondurant was a native of Athens, Clarke County, Georgia, one of five children of Emmett Jopling and Martha Strong "Birdie" Moss Bondurant. He married Mariy Claire Brannon (d. 26 April 2001) and they were parents of three children. Mr. Bondurant received a civil engineering degree from the University of Georgia and owned Athens Lumber Company for forty years. He served with the 54th Air Service Group, USAF, in World War II in India, China and Burma.
