Corney Grain was a popular Victorian-era public entertainer. Trained as a barrister, he preferred the theatre, where he became known for writing and performing musical sketches. He not only wrote numerous songs, he also set other writers' words to music; Grain had a long association with the Thomas German Reed troupe.
