Paul Giovanopoulos was born in Kastoria, Greece, and came to the United States in 1954. He studied at New York University and the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he also worked as an teacher (1969), before moving on the the Parsons School of Design (1970-1973). Among his awards are the Gold Medal of the Society of Illustrators (1961), the John Armstrong Chaloner Foundation fellowship (1964-65). "The Real Tin Flower" was on the New York Times 10 best children's books list (1958), while "Free as a Frog" was named a best illustrated book (1969). Giovanopoulos has received 9 awards from the Art Directors Club of Miami as the illustrator for the Storer Broadcasting Corporation extended series.
