Bruce Ingle Staser, son of Harry and Barbara Staser, was born in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1919. He attended the University of Alaska (1937-1941), and graduated from the United States Military Academy (1944) and the University of Wisconsin (M.A. 1960). He married Betty Jo Thies (1944) and served in the army (1944-1973), retiring with the rank of colonel. He was appointed adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard by Governor Egan with the rank of major-general, and later became executive assistant to Anchorage mayor George Sullivan (1974) and Anchorage civil defense director (1975-1982). Betty Jo Staser received the Distinguished Alumnus Award (1983) from the University of Alaska.
