Fred C. Wallace was a United States (U.S.) Army officer who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1910. He was assigned to the 4th Mechanized Division at Fort Gordon, Georgia (October 1940); commanded the Fifth Corps Area (redesignated Fifth Service Command) with headquarters at Fort Hayes, Ohio (July 1942); commanded the 4th Island Command, Central Pacific (October 1943); commanded the Tenth Army, Garrison Forces, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii (November 1944); he was assigned as island commander, Okinawa (May 1945). Wallace retired from service on 30 April, 1946.

Born in McMinnilla, Tennessee ; attended West Point, 1906-1910 ; commissioned 2LT of Field Artillery. Was with 3rd Field Artillery, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Served as Inspector-General, Office of the Chief of Field Artillery, 1918-19, spent 1924-1929 at the Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Commander, 10th Army during Battle of Okinawa. Attended Command and General Staff School (1930-31) And the Army War College (1936). Executive Officer, Office of the Chief of Field Artillery (1939-1940). Artillery Commander (1940-41) and Division Commander (1941-42), 4th Motorized Division, Fort Benning, Georgia. July 1942, assumed command of the 5th Service Command, Fort Hayes, Ohio. September 1943, given the Espiritu Santo Island Command in the South Pacific, November 1944, commanded the Okinawa Base Command. Retired in April 1946, Geneeral Wallace died on 30 July 1959, at Richmond, Virginia.
