The Legislative Finance Committee was established by a legislative act in 1957 (1957 Laws of N.M., Chp. 3, Sec. 108). The Committee is a continuing joint interim committee of the New Mexico State Legislature, chaired by the Chairman of either the Senate Finance Committee or the House Appropriations Finance Committee. The function of the Committee is to examine the laws governing the finances and operations of departments, agencies, and institutions of New Mexico state government and all of its political subdivisions, and to make budget recommendations to the Legislature.
