Ramey, Gene
Gene Ramey was a renowned jazz bassist from Austin, Texas, who made his mark playing in the "territory bands" of Kansas City in the 1930s. He later joined Charlie Parker and others in the move to New York City, where he was a key figure in the development of BeBop.
