Samuel Ludlow Frey (1833-1924) a resident of Palatine Bridge, Montgomery County, New York, was an antiquarian and writer on the Mohawks and the Mohawk Valley from its settlement through the Revolution. He published monographs including the annotated "The Minute Book of the Committee of Safety of Tryon County". S. Ludlow Frey was descended from the Freys (Montgomery County), Herkimers (Herkimer County), and Van Schaack, Cruger and Ludlow families (Kinderhook, Columbia County, New York).
