Joseph Taylor Robinson was a U.S. Representative (1903-1913), Governor (January-March 1913), and U.S. Senator (1913-1937) from Arkansas. He also served as Senate minority leader (1923-1933) and majority leader (1933-1937).

Joseph Taylor Robinson was born in 1872 near Lonoke, Arkansas. He briefly attended the University of Arkansas and the University of Virginia. He practiced law in Lonoke and in Little Rock, and was elected to the Arkansas General Assembly in 1894. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1903. In 1912 he was elected governor of Arkansas, but resigned after seven weeks to fill the unexpired term in the U.S. Senate caused by the death of Jeff Davis. He was re-elected to the Senate in 1918, 1924, 1930, 1933 and as majority leader from 1933 until his death in 1937. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1920, 1924, 1928, 1932 and 1936, and served as chairman of the convention in 1920, 1928, and 1936. In 1928 he was the Democratic candidate for vice president of the United States.
