Kovalevskiĭ, M.M. (Maksim Maksimovich), 1851-1916.
A historian and sociologist, Kovalevskiĭ taught in western Europe as well as Russia. His major works included "Pervobytnoe pravo" (1886) and"Proiskhozhdenie sovremennoĭ demokratii" (1895-1899). Kovalevskiĭ served in the State Duma and the State Council, and from 1909 was the publisher of "Vestnik Evropy."
