Edwin Hoyt Lockwood was born in New Canaan, Connecticut on October 31, 1866. He received his Ph.B. from the Sheffield Scientific Schhol, Yale University in 1888, his M.E. in 1892, and his Ph.D. in 1901. Lockwood held various positions in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Yale from 1890-1930. He was a leading authority in the scientific aspects of automotive design and testing. Lockwood died in 1930.
