In 1810 the President appointed him collector of customs at Mackinac, but the Senate refused to confirm the act. On Mar. 12, 1812, he was commissioned. capt. in the 19th U.S. Inf., and in Dec., 1814, and Jan., 1815, was commandant of Detroit.
