Adrian H. Joline, a lawyer and and noted book collector, author of Meditations of an Autograph Collector (1902) and Rambles in Autograph Land (1913). His collection was sold at a series of auctions conducted by The Anderson Galleries in 1915.

Joline is a French name of Huguenot origin. The first traceable branch of the family lived in Princeton, N.J. John Joline was born in Princeton, N.J. where he was one of the most notable landlords or innkeepers of Princeton. He was in charge of the Nassau Hotel from 1812 to 1836, and was known as a genial host. Among his children were William Joline who graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University); Charles Oliver Joline graduated from the College of New Jersey in 1834 and served in the Mexican and the Civil Wars; and John Van Dyke Joline, who graduated from the College of New Jersey in 1827.

Adrian Hoffman Joline was the son of Charles Oliver Joline. He graduated from the College of New Jersey with the degree A.B. in 1870 and the degree of A.M. in 1873. He was admitted to the bar, and in 1905 he helped form the law firm of Joline, Larkin & Rathbone. Early in his career he developed an interest in railway litigation and to trusts and mortgages. He was chairman of the board of directors and president of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Company from 1906 to 1909. Adrian Hoffman Joline was also an author; his works include MEDITATION OF AN AUTOGRAPH COLLECTOR (1902), DIVERSIONS OF A BOOK LOVER (1903), and THE AUTOGRAPH HUNTER (1906).
