Textile firm established in Waltham, Mass. in 1813 by Francis Cabot Lowell and Patrick Tracy Jackson. Operated the first mill in the world to combine all aspects of the manufacture of cotten cloth under one roof. Its establishment marks the start of the factory system in the United States.
