In December 1957 the Penn State Board of Trustees accepted a grant to establish a five-year program in liberal education for adults. Under the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Center for Continuing Liberal Education began work 1 July 1958 to provide continuing educational opportunities for those individuals and organizations who in turn educate their specific publics. A permanent division in the College of the Liberal Arts in 1961, the Center's last publication appeared in 1973.
