Sisca, Alessandro, 1875-1940.

A journalist, poet, anti-fascist, and socialist, Alessandro Sisca (Riccardo Cordiferro) (1875-1940) was born in San Pietro in Guarano, Province of Cosenza, Italy. Immigrating to America in 1892, he founded the literary journal La Follia di New York with his father, Francesco, and brother, Marziale (1878- ), in 1893. He remained its director until 1909, when he was forced to resign; he continued work on the editorial board and published his works under many pseudonymns. He was imprisoned several times for his socialist and anticlerical views. During the Sacco and Vanzetti case, he served as official spokesman for the Utica, New York, pro Sacco and Vanzetti committee. Sisca was a frequent speaker on literary as well as social subjects, and was a popular dramatist. He also was author of many songs, some of which were introduced to the public by Enrico Caruso.
