The E.S. King Village Council (formerly the McKimmon Village Council) is the governing body for the E.S. King Village neighbood. It serves as an advisory board for policy decisions affecting residents and organizes community activities. E.S. King Village, originally called McKimmon Village, was built in 1959 to house married and other non-traditional students, and the Council was established with or before the opening of the Village. The complex was renamed for Edward Scull King (secretary of the YMCA at NC State from 1919 until 1955) in the late 1970s when the King Religious Center (also named for E. S. King) was demolished and the McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education was constructed. The complex includes 17 buildings with 295 studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments. The E. S. King Village Council remains active as of 2008.
