Dr. Gilbert Govan (1892-1978) was director of the library at the University of Chattanooga (1934-1962). He was also a prominent local historian who published a couple of books about Chattanooga and area histories. Another endeavor Dr. Govan undertook was writing book reviews for various local publications, including the Chattanooga Times. Christine Noble Govan (1898-1985) was born in New York City and moved to Sewanee, Tennessee after her father died. She lived on Lookout Mountain from age 10 until her death. She attended the University of Chattanooga and went on to work for the Carnegie Library in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She also worked as a teacher and book reviewer for the "Chattanooga Times" and "Chattanooga News." She is best known as a writer of young adult mystery stories co-authored with her daughter Emmy. Some of these books include "The Delectable Mountain" and "Those Plummer Children."
