Constitution Island, located opposite West Point and owned by the Warner family, was an important Revolutionary War outpost. Anna B. Warner (1827-1915) and Susan B. Warner (1819-1885) were both writers.

The Chapel of Our Lady on the shore of the Hudson River at Cold Spring was originally built in 1833 to serve the needs of the Catholic workers at the West Point Foundry. It was restored and dedicated as a non-denominational chapel in 1977.
