Griffith, who is considered to be the father of sports psychology, was responsible for developing the world's first sports psychology laboratory in 1925 at the University of Illinois. The players were evaluated based on the following fourteen traits: physical quickness, mental quickness, courage, emotional balance, cooperation, perception, adaptability, baseball skill, loyalty, intelligence, strength, attention, leadership, and personality. The study lasted a year and produced an exhaustive look at the team from a psychological and sociological point of view.
