Hide Profile

James Heasley was born on July 14, 1916 and was commonly known as Jim. He and his family moved from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Sierra Madre, California in February 1920. They moved because his mother's health was ailing and it was thought that the fresh mountain air of Sierra Madre would help her get better. Unfortunately, she passed away four years later in 1924. The family lived in Canyon Park and during the summers and weekends, Jim worked on the Sierra Madre packtrains which serviced the various camps along the Mount Wilson Trail and in Santa Anita Canyon. He started doing this when he was a seven and would eventually be put on the payroll by Bill Corum when he was eleven. A veteran of World War II, Jim also worked at a riding academy, got on the fire department as a firefighter in 1937, was on the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team, and worked for Shell Oil Company. Jim and his wife Barbara were married on June 5, 1938. Jim passed away on July 19, 2002.
