Originally called the Lincoln (Neb.) Peace Council and founded in 1935, the Nebraska Peace Council was a clearinghouse for organizations having programs for peace education or action, and for supporting individuals such as draft resisters. It used a system of blockworkers who travelled within certain voting districts to disseminate peace action information. Leon Thomson was the Executive Secretary. His duties and title continued from the Lincoln Peace Council (1935-1940) into the 1940s when the Council became a statewide organization affiliated with the National Peace Conference and in communication with the National Council for Prevention of War.
