Missionary, educator; born Esther I. Salzman on September 23, 1906; graduated from Wheaton College, 1929; earned R.N. degree from Presbyterian School of Nursing, Chicago; took education courses at Columbia University; worked in China as a missionary with the American Baptist Foreign Missionary Society, 1940-1948; earned an M.S. in nursing from University of Chicago, ca. 1949; became coordinator of nursing at the Iloilo Mission Hospital in the Philippines, 1950; served as dean of the Central Philippines University; concluded missionary work and returned to the States, 1972; taught nursing at Olivet Nazarene College.
