Přemysl Pitter; Christian pacifist, educator; educated poor children in Czechoslovakia; sheltered Jewish children from the Nazis; after World War II, educated Czech, Jewish, and German refugee children together; forced to leave Czechoslovakia in 1951 because of refusal to conform to Communist ideology; fled to Germany, where he opened Camp Valka; later lived in Switzerland, where he died in 1976; assisted in his efforts by a Swiss educational theorist, Olga Fierz.
