Defenders of State Sovereignty and Individual Liberties
The Defenders of State Sovereignty and Individual Liberties was chartered in 1954 to prevent the desegregation of Virginia's public schools. It was the most powerful segregationist organization in Virginia and proved instrumental in the passage of the Massive Resistance laws enacted by the General Assembly in 1956.
