Captain Thaddeus Maccarty (c. 1670-1729) of Boston was an experienced sea captain and skilled navigator in the merchant service. His son, Rev. Thaddeus Maccarty (1721-1784), graduated from Harvard in 1739 and became a minister, first in Kingston, Mass. and later at the Old South Church in Worcester, Mass. (1747 to 1784). He married Mary Gatcomb (1725-1783) of Boston in 1743. Their son, Dr. Thaddeus Maccarty (1747-1802), graduated from Yale in 1766 and became a well-known physician, eventually working on smallpox cures with Dr. James Latham ( - ) of New York. Dr. Maccarty married Experience Cowdin (1757-1789) of Fitchburg in 1775 and eventually settled in Keene, N.H. as a pharmacist.
