John William Stiles (1777-1836) of Keene, N.H., settled in Templeton, Mass., in 1808 as a merchant and served as town treasurer, clerk, and selectman, and as Representative to the General Court, 1810-1813. Stiles moved to Worcester, Mass. in 1821 with his wife Mary Maccarty Stiles (1775-1838) and two daughters Lydia Stiles (later Mrs. Alfred Dwight Foster)(1806-1887) and Mary Maccarty Stiles (1807-1872).
