Israel Keith graduated from Harvard College, ca. 1771, and then commenced study of law; Took up a position as an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolution, serving as an aide-de-camp to General William Heath, 1776-1778; later served as Adjutant General of the Massachusetts during the time of Shay's Rebellion, 1786-1787.
