Currie, J. L. (John Lang), 1818-1898
Variant namesPastoralist and businessman. In 1844 Currie, in partnership with Thomas Anderson, purchased Larra run near Camperdown, Victoria. This property eventually became the centre of breeding experiments and Currie achieved a considerable reputation as a producer of fine wool. He also achieved notable success as a pastoral improver. He had extensive business interests and was chairman of the Victorian Woollen and Cloth Manufacturing Co., a director of the Australian Frozen Meat Export Co., and of the Australasian Mortgage and Agency Co.
