Currie, J. L. (John Lang), 1818-1898
Pastoralist and businessman. In 1844 Currie, in partnership with Thomas Anderson, purchased Larra run near Camperdown, Victoria. This property eventually became the centre of breeding experiments and Currie achieved a considerable reputation as a producer of fine wool. He also achieved notable success as a pastoral improver. He had extensive business interests and was chairman of the Victorian Woollen and Cloth Manufacturing Co., a director of the Australian Frozen Meat Export Co., and of the Australasian Mortgage and Agency Co.
