Born in Hickling, Nottinghamshire, England, July 21, 1865. Came to U.S. at early age. Attended Farmington H.S. and State Agricultural College. In 1889 established a series of cheese factories; 1888 married Martha M. Davis; 1901-1905, Sec. of State (Mich.); 1905-11, Governor. Died in 1923. (from Mich. Bios.) (blue index cards)
