Biographical Note

Charles H. Rogers was born at Bridgehampton, New York, in 1806. As a young man he relocated to Galena, Illinois, where he became a merchant and interested himself in the lead mines and a banking house. It is in Galena that Rogers probably met the Grant family. Returning to New York a wealthy man, Rogers established himself in business and married Mary Post in 1836. He died on September, 20, 1880, at his residence in Ravenswood, New York.
