Alexander Williams Randall (1819-1872) was educated as a lawyer. He served as Republican governor of Wisconsin, 1857-1861, and was U.S. Postmaster-general, 1866-1869. He appears to have been executor of the will of Elizabeth Gamble Wirt, wife of William Wirt (1772-1834). Elizabeth Gamble Wirt, daughter of William and Elizabeth Wirt, married Admiral Louis Malesherbes Goldsborough who was a prominent figure in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War.
