Clement, Rufus E., 1900-1967
Variant namesRufus Early Clement (b. 1900 d. 1967) was the sixth and longest-serving President of Atlanta University. He was elected in 1937 and held the position until his death in 1967. During his administration, the Atlanta School of Social Work, a self-supporting professional school affiliated with the University, and the Schools of Library Service, Education, and Business Administration were established. Also, doctoral programs were instituted in the fields of biology, education, and mathematics.
