Rolla Anderson Clymer (1888-1977) was born in Alton, Kan.; he lived in various midwestern towns and graduated from Quenemo High School (Kan.) in 1905 as well as the College of Emporia (Kan.) in 1909. He did graduate work at the University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism (Lawrence). Clymer worked for White while a student. Later Clymer was the editor and manager of the Olathe register, the El Dorado republican, the Santa Fe New Mexican, and the El Dorado times. He was active and influential in Kansas Republican Party politics. He was on the staff of the 1936 U.S. presidential campaign of Alfred M. Landon. Clymer was the first secretary/director of the Kansas Industrial Development Commission. During his later years, he channeled his efforts towards preserving the Kansas Flint Hills and establishing a Kansas natural prairie park; he also was involved in oil and gas production.
