Bailhache family.
Family of John and Mary Elizabeth Heath Bailhache who immigrated to Alton, Illinois, from Ohio in 1837. Bailhache was an editor, publisher and politician.
Son William H. became co-editor of the Illinois State Journal in Springfield, Illinois, was in the quartermaster corps in the Civil War, and later was a treasury agent and customs inspector in the West. Son Preston H. was a physician in Springfield, was imprisoned at Andersonville during the Civil War, and later worked for the Government Public Health Service. Son Arthur Lee died of illness during service in the Civil War.
