Charles I. du Pont & Company.

Hide Profile

The woolen company of Du Pont, Bauduy & Co. was established on the Brandywine in 1810 with E.I. du Pont, Raphael Du Planty, Victor du Pont, and Peter Bauduy as partners. On February 25, 1815 this partnership was dissolved and succeeded by Victor & Charles du Pont & Co. which continued until the death of Victor du Pont in 1827, when the firm became Charles I. du Pont & Co. In 1839 it acquired the mill property of Dixon & Breck, a woolen company organized four years earlier. This mill, also situated on the Brandywine and known as Rokeby, was added to the original Louviers operation under the management of William Breck. Rokeby and Louviers were turned over to E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. in 1854 and 1856 respectively, when Charles I. du Pont & Co. ceased operations.
