Martin, W.A.P. (William Alexander Parsons), 1827-1916
Variant namesDr. W.A.P. Martin (1827-1916); appointed to the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions in 1849, assigned to Ningpo station, China. In 1857 his fluency in the Chinese language won for him the post of interpreter to the US legation to China. In 1863 Dr. Martin was transferred to Peking. In 1868 he organized the International Law and Language School in Peking.
