Stong, Phil, 1899-1957
Variant namesPhil Stong, an American author, teacher, journalist and editor, who published more than forty books, was born in 1899 in Pittsburg, Iowa. Stong scored his first success in 1932 with the publication of his novel, STATE FAIR, which was later adapted for the screen as the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical of the same name. In addition to his novels, his short stories were published in most of the leading national magazines of the time, and he also wrote several screenplays. Stong died at his home in western Connecticut in 1957. His works include THE REBELLION OF LENNIE BARLOW (1937), and ADVENTURES OF "HORSE" BARNSBY (1956).
