Hudson, James G., b.1832.
James G. Hudson, born in 1832 served as chaplain and treasurer for Company D, the Canebrake Rifle Guards, of the 4th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Hudson enlisted on 1861 April 25 in Union Town and was discharged 1861 Oct. at Camp Law, Virginia. He was born in Virginia, married at the outbreak of the war, and was a merchant.
The Rifle Guards were organized in Union Town, Perry County, Ala., under a general call for volunteers by Governor Moore on 18 April 1861. Captain Richard Clarke and his company reported to Montgomery on 26 April 1861. The Fourth became a part of General B. E. Bee's Brigade and took part in First Bull Run, Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill, Sharpsburg, Seven Pines, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Knoxville, Spotsylvania, and the Wilderness campaign. After General Bee's death at Bull Run, the Regiment was commanded by General W. H. Whiting and General Perry.
