Lieutenant James McConnell served in the Confederate Army during the siege of Vicksburg. Elizabeth Logan McConnell was active in the New Orleans Era Club, which made great efforts to place a woman on the Louisiana State Board of Education. James McConnell, Sr. was active in the Episcopal Church in Louisiana. McConnell, Sr. also worked with Paul Tulane to establish the groundwork that would found Tulane University and later helped to arrange for the foundation of Sophie Newcomb College. James McConnell, Jr. was attorney for the Federal Land Bank in the Louisiana Division.
