The British Columbia Electric Railway Company was formed in 1897 through the amalgamation of a number of electric street railways and electric power facilities in Vancouver, Victoria and New Westminster. The BCER operated numerous subsidiary companies to provide streetcar and electric services. In 1926 a corporate reorganization resulted in the establishment of a new holding company, British Columbia Electric Power and Gas Company.
